Bring everything you read
An empty reader is not much use. Everything on your Home screen arrived by one of the routes below, and none of them take longer than a few seconds.
Send a page from any app
When you are already reading something in Safari or Chrome, press Share, then choose Readible. The page arrives with the menus, banners and pop-ups stripped away, ready to be read aloud. It works from almost any app that can share a link.
Or start from the Home screen
There are six ways in, sitting together on the Home screen:
- Write text gives you a blank page for a note, a draft, or anything you want to type or paste in yourself.
- Upload file takes EPUB books and PDFs, whether they are on the phone or in your cloud storage.
- Scan an image lifts the words off a photograph or a printed page.
- Paste link takes a web address, and offers you the one you have already copied instead of making you type it out.
- Import Kindle book reaches the books you have bought from Amazon.
- Browse web sends you looking for something without leaving the app.
Your Kindle library
Kindle books take three steps, and only the first one ever asks anything of you:
- Sign in to your Amazon account, once.
- Choose a book from the library that appears.
- Import it, and wait a moment.
From then on the book behaves like everything else here. The same voices, the same highlight, the same speed you have already settled on.
Stories that keep going
Serialised fiction is where all of this earns its keep. When the voice reaches the end of a chapter on a site like that, Readible looks for the link to the chapter after it and carries straight on. You can start chapter nine while cooking and be somewhere near chapter fifteen by the time you have washed up.
This tutorial moves the same way. Tap once to show the toolbar, then press Next for the final chapter, or Prev to go back to the beginning.
When you have nothing lined up
The Discover tab gathers good writing by subject. Technology, science, history, philosophy, psychology and a dozen more, next to a shelf of notable books. It is there for the evenings when you want something worth the time and cannot think of a single thing to read.
The last chapter is about what you can do with a passage once you have found one worth keeping.
